The story is set in the early decades of the 900. Golasciutta is a hamlet of several hundred inhabitants situated at the foot of the mountains and, from time immemorial, during the summer months, suffering from drought. This year, then the season was anything but auspicious: all winter you have not seen a flake of snow, while spring has promised rain cats and dogs, but in the end it was the driest spring in decades . The old mayor Pier Paolo De Paoli, in office for over thirty years, is desperate. He knows that, this year, will be forced to ration water ... And he also knows that his fellow villagers are not happy at all and that, come al solito, attribuiranno a lui la colpa di tutte le loro disgrazie. Per fortuna il sindaco è stato previdente: in autunno ha incaricato i suoi due figli gemelli di attraversare le montagne per recarsi dal più famoso mago dell’acqua della regione ad apprendere le prodigiose virtù dei rabdomanti. Tutte le speranze sono riposte su Paolo e Paola, i due gemelli. A Golasciutta però sono increduli: nessuno crede davvero che essi riusciranno a trovare l’acqua. I due gemelli non si perdono in chiacchiere: il giorno stesso del ritorno dal loro viaggio di studio, si mettono alla ricerca dell’acqua …
